Gasfitter A - In Progress
Students must have 3600 hours prior experience in the gas industry and be either Gas Tech 2 or Gasfitter B certified to be eligible for this course. This course will cover CSA modules 25-31 with a written exam upon completion. Course consists of online and instructor led training. A meeting will be held at the Training Centre on September 14 at 6 pm for interested members. Please contact the Training Centre to register for the meeting.
This 40 hour course is intended for experienced riggers only. It will include theoretical and practical training covering the best rigging practices, calculating centers of gravity, sling stress, crane set up and the use of tuggers, jacks and rollers. Students will be required to pass a written and practical test to receive a certificate. This course will begin on September 25, and will be held Monday and Wednesday nights from 6-9 pm and every other Saturday 8 am-4 pm. Postponed due to lack of enrollment
This course is compulsory for all new members. Students will learn the history of unionism, the UA Standard for Excellence and their responsibility as union members. Next courses to be announced.
Introductory Pressure Pipe Welding
This 60 hour introductory level program is intended for members who wish to learn basic SMAW pipe welding techniques. Students must have prior SMAW welding experience. This course will begin on September 25, and will be held Monday and Wednesday nights from 6-9 pm. Postponed due to lack of enrollment
This 9 hour course is intended to assist members with mathematical concepts used in the piping industry. Topics to be covered include imperial and metric conversion, fractions, offsets, volume and pressures. Course will be held on November 9, 16, and 23.
This certification course is intended to teach members how to safely operate a forklift. Next course to be announced
UA Foreman Certification - In Progress
This 40 hour course is designed to provide journeypersons the necessary entry level training required to move into supervisory roles in the union construction industry. Experienced foreman and members who are interested in foreman positions may apply. Course starts on November 1 and will be held Monday and Wednesday nights from 6-9 pm and every other Saturday 8-4 pm.
Cross Connection Control Testers Course - In Progress
This 40 hour course will cover all types of backflow assemblies and their applications. Upon course completion students will write the AWWA Cross Connection Control testers examination. This training is intended for members who have the opportunity to perform testing on backflow assemblies in the field. This course is scheduled to begin on November 1 and will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6-9 pm.
This 12 hour course will cover mathematical concepts required to perform bending procedures as well as practical shop projects. Students will learn the 'simple' bending process as well as the setback, advance, gain (SAG) process. Course will be held on November 14, 6-9 pm and November 18, 8 am- 4 pm and is open to all members.
